Last Week for JV – Championship Meets Begin

Highlights from the SMS Dive Invitational on Saturday.

Thirty-two divers participated in the annual SMS Dive Invitational, where Mia Musson placed 3rd with a score of 373.35 and freshman Ophe Shapiro finished 10th and qualified for State. Congratulations divers!

This Week’s Schedule

  • Monday 4/20/18 – Last JV practice of the season.
  • Tuesday 5/1/18 – JV Swim League Meet @ SM Northwest. Buses depart SMS at 2:15pm; warm-up begins at 3:15pm. Competition will begin at 4:30pm.
  • Wednesday 5/2/18 – Team Dinner
  • Thursday 5/3/18 – Dive Prelims & Semi-Finals for Sunflower League Championship at Lawrence High. Coach Ecker will drive the team to the meet in the school van; warm-up begins at 3:30pm; competition starts at 5:00pm. Also on Thursday, equipment turn-in for all swimmers not participating in the Sunflower League meet. They will not have any additional practices this year.
  • Friday 5/4/18 – Swim Prelims – Sunflower League Championship – Lawrence High. Team bus departs SMS at 2:15pm. Warm-up begins at 3:30pm. Competition begins at 5:00pm. Admission fees will be charged: $5 students, $7 adults.
  • Saturday 5/5/18 – Swim & Dive Finals – League Championship – Lawrence High. Team bus departs SMS at 7:00am. Meet begins at 10:00am and includes the Diving competition finals as well. The top 18 swim qualifiers from Friday prelims will compete on Saturday with A-“Championship” (places 1-6); B-“Consolation” (places 7-12); and C-“Exhibition/LastChance” (places 13-18) finals. No points will be scored for the C finals.

Looking ahead to next week, the JV Dive League Meet will be Monday, May 7th at SM North. Competition begins at 6pm.

Meets This Week

  • Wednesday 4/25/18 – Senior Night – SME at SMS. Meet begins at 4pm. Come support your graduating seniors at their last home meet.
  • Saturday 4/28/18 – SM South Dive Invitational at SMS. Competition begins at 9am; warm-up starts at 7am.

Note: there is no team dinner this week.

League Meet Information

Bove will announce SMS League Swim & Dive competitors after this week’s meet vs SM East.

Sunflower League Championships – Apparel Information

Lawrence High School, host of this year’s meet, will be selling t-shirts — available in short and long sleeve — for the Sunflower League Swimming and Diving Meet now through April 27th. The shirts can be ordered online, in advance, at the Sunflower Swim website. All online orders will be available for pickup at the concession stand at the meet.

The online store will be taken down this weekend. All orders must be placed by April 27th.
