Your timely registration helps us update the team mailing list, and helps to ensure that the team t-shirt can be ordered as soon as possible so the boys can have it available for the early meets. Team suits, bags and other apparel is now available in the SMS team store. Team suit orders must be placed by Nov. 16th.
Physicals and Athletic Participation Forms
All participants must have their KSHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Exam (PPE) and 2018/19 Athletic Participation Packet completed and on file with the school athletic department office by Friday, November 9, 2018.
Meet in the pool area at 3pm. You do not need to change into your suits prior to the meeting. Coaches will be introduced, lockers assigned, and Swim Quik representatives will be available for suit fittings. Practice will start after the team meeting.
The Sunflower League has released the meet schedule. It has also been added to this site, and to our event calendar (which also includes location maps). As always, this is subject to change. We will endeavor to keep the schedule up-to-date on the website, but highly recommend checking the League calendar for the most accurate information. Use the “view schedules” tool to filter by Swimming.
There will be a meeting in Coach Berg’s room 167, after school on Thursday Oct 25, for all boys and girls interested in joining the Swim and Dive team this upcoming year. Meet the new Diving coach, and discuss preseason requirements.
All Boys and Girls that are participating with the Swimming and Diving team for the parade are to report to 7th hr, take attendance, then release to the back of the school where we will get in line with the other activities. The theme is Into the Wild, so dress in camping attire.
Working the Concession Stand at Tonight’s Football Game
The Boys and Girls teams are working the concession stand during the 2nd half of the Football game (Softball is working the 1st half). All volunteers please report to the stand just before the end of the 1st half to run the Stand until close.
Raider Swim & Dive – New Coach Introduction and Upcoming Events
Come meet Coach Derek Berg, the new head coach for the Boys and Girls Swim & Dive teams at a short introductory and informational meeting on Thursday, August 30th, after school in Room 167.
Beside the team introduction, Coach Berg would like to discuss Swim & Dive participation in the Homecoming Parade, and also sign-up volunteers to help work the Concession Stand for the home game on September 21st.
If you’re interested in either Boys Swim & Dive (Winter) or Girls (Spring), or already planning to participate, please attend Thursday’s meeting.
Congratulations to the team; coaches Bruce Bove, Chris Copeland, and Lori Ecker; and parents and supporters on a successful State meet. The team scored 109 points to finish 8th overall (of 23 teams), up from 64 points and 14th place a year ago. Wichita East repeated as champions with Lawrence Free State in second, and SM East in third.
The team had 5 podium finishers: Senior Claire Nash in the 50 and 100 free, Sophomore Lydia Kernan in the 100 breast, the 200-free relay and 400-free relay. Besides the podium, SM South got points from the 200 medley relay and divers Mia Musson (sophomore) and Ophelia Shapiro (freshman). Throughout the weekend, SM South swimmers excelled, setting numerous PRs. Great job everyone!
