Coach Berg has started a new tradition for SMS Swim and Dive – SERVING SATURDAY.
The premise is simple.
Sometime between the hours of 7 am – 9:30 am the boys (your kiddos) are to clean their room, rake leaves, do the dishes, clean an area of the house, clean the garage, or whatever chore/project you (the parent/caregiver) can think of that needs to be completed.
The boys are then required to take a picture with a parent or caregiver giving the thumbs up (to show that what chore they did is sufficient) and post the picture on the team GroupMe.
Extra points if your kiddo can make a before and after collage of the chore.
(You know, for world’s meanest parent and all.)
Expect this tradition to show up again when there is a late meet on Friday or during the holidays.
There is only one swim/dive meet this week – Olathe Invitational.
(Links to directions, meet times, and meet information are available on the website’s event calendar.)
Olathe Invitational Meet on December 14th
The Olathe Invitational Meet only allows three entries per event AND there is a minimum time standard. Coach Berg will go over the entries, who will be competing, and which events with the team on Tuesday during practice. Only those competing will be traveling to the meet.
Boys Attending Meet (SWIM): Nathan Snyder, Owen Krussow, Ryan Owens, Carson Guthrie, Chris Pettrella, Paul Conrady, Joe Barreca, Kyle Gelhaus, Nathan Tompkins, and Max Tonley.
Boys Attending Meet (DIVE): Sam Aldeguer, Nathan Fulbright, and Tim Holmes.
This meet has an entrance fee. If you choose to be a timer for the meet, then Olathe Northwest will cover your entry fee. Click here to sign up to be a timer.

NOTE: If your son is riding the bus to SMSDAC, please have him meet in the sophomore lot at 2:50 pm.

SM District Meet on December 7th
This will be the first meet at the new Shawnee Mission Aquatic Center. The dive competition starts at 9:00 am with swimming in the afternoon. (Parents should plan around 11:30 am for swim.) Athletes are responsible for getting themselves to and from the meet. There will be no team transportation.
Since this is an all-team meet, swimmers should plan to be at the Aquatic Center in the morning to cheer on the divers and be ready for warm-ups when dive ends.
Swim/Dive practice will be at both SMS Pool and SMSDAC.
NOTE: If your son is riding the bus to SMSDAC, please have him meet in the sophomore lot at 2:50 pm.

If you haven’t already, please register for the team. Final registration is due on 12/5. Remember, with your registration, you will receive a team shirt and end-of-the-season banquet ticket. Fees also help pay for this website, weekly emails, coach’s gifts, and other swim needs.
Throughout the swim season parent volunteers are needed to help support the team. From traditions like Saturday after-practice doughnuts, to team dinners and away-meet lunches, and organizing the end-of-the-year banquet, the team needs your help. Please review the opportunities available and sign-up using the SignUp Genius Links below.
Thank you for your support.
Provide two or more dozen doughnuts to the boys after their Saturday morning practice. I promise they will get devoured. I also promise that someone will eat too many. Sign up for Saturday Doughnut here.
Provide a pasta potluck to the boys before their first swim meet. The dinner will be at SMS in the Gym Lobby after practice on December 3rd.
Plan to bring your hot dish by 5:00 pm. Can’t make it by 5:00? We also have needs for paper goods, water bottles, and pre-made desserts. Dinner will conclude around 7:30 pm. Sign up for the December 3rd Team Dinner here.
Provide sack lunches to the boys for away meets that are during the school week. These lunches are crucial to give food/energy to the boys before their races.
Lunches need to be assembled off-site and contain a sandwich, drink, fruit, snack bar, chips, and dessert. It’s a great opportunity to support the team if you aren’t able to help or host team dinners because they can be prepared in advance. While the sign-ups are individual, feel free to find another parent offline to share the responsibility. Sign up for away-meet sack lunches here.
