Practice Schedule and Announcements for 2/25/19 – 3/3/19
Welcome to the first week! We will follow our standard practice schedule this week, but with the understanding that some adjustments will be made for fittings, meetings, and team pictures.
Groups
Given the size of the team, we plan to start the season using two groups: 1) Green and 2) Gold. If you were on the team last year, you will start the season based off your previous group placement.
Green is made up of Bove’s “Gold” and “Double Gold” groups from last year.
Gold is made up of Bove’s “Triple Gold” and “Super Heroes” groups.
Divers
If you don’t remember which group you were in, the coaches have last year’s roster and groups lists for reference. If you are new to the team, the coaches will evaluate you during the first week and place you in the appropriate group based on your skills and experience.
Movement between groups will occur, but it will be at the coaches’ discretion.

Please review this information, submit your team/booster registration, order a suit and cap, turn in required forms, and get ready for the season!
The first practice is Monday, February 25th. Meet in the pool by 3pm. You will need a one-piece suit, goggles, and a towel. (see this week’s schedule)
On Tuesday the 26th, there will be a suit and spiritwear fitting for those needing to confirm sizes. Swim Quik will be available in the pool area immediately after school with suits; Dr. Buss and Micah will have spiritwear samples to try on. (The joggers run small, apparently.)
Also on the 26th, following practice at 5:30pm, there will be a parent-coaches meeting, most likely in the small gym just upstairs from the pool area.
1. Team Registration – Team Booster Club
Your support of the team through the Booster Club plays a critical role and benefits the entire team. It is not required to participate. The funds raised by the Booster Club, and the volunteer efforts of parents, help support the team and the coaches throughout the season. With recent budget cutbacks, your support is needed more than ever. We encourage all participants to please join.
In addition to providing much needed support for team activities and expenses including Senior Night, the team Banquet, athlete recognition, and the team website, each participant who registers will receive a team t-shirt, 1/4 zip pullover, and free team member banquet attendance. The 1/4 zip pullover is available only through the booster club registration.

Please take a few moments to submit your team/booster registration today. Your timely registration helps us update the team mailing list, order senior banners for display in the pool area, and helps to ensure that the team spiritwear can be ordered as soon as possible.
Booster Registrations are due by March 3rd, 2019 in order for the spiritwear to arrive in time for the first meet.
Note: For those who miss the March 3rd deadline, spiritwear may not be available, but the banquet fees will still be covered for the team member.
Team suits and Custom/Personalized Silicone Caps are available to order directly from Swim Quik at the SMS team store. Purchase of the team suit and/or personalized silicone caps is optional. Participants are not required to wear the team suit in competition. However, please keep in mind, all suits used in competition (not practice) cannot have other team insignia or logos, or large commercial logos.
Purchase of the personalized silicone caps is highly recommended. The caps should last the entire season (silicone is much more durable than latex), and having the swimmer’s name visible makes it much easier for parents, teammates, and coaches to identify the swimmer. It’s great to be able to pick them out in photos too!
Visit the Swim Quik/SMS Girls Team Online Store to order your suits and caps. If you’re not sure of sizing, Swim Quik will be attending practice on Tuesday, February 26th with suits to try on for size. They will be available beginning immediately after school. Orders for suits and caps are also due by March 3rd.
3. Additional Spiritwear
Additional team Spiritwear for parents, supporters, and participants is available for purchase directly from the Girls Team Spiritwear Store Options include embroidered SMS ballcaps, Joggers, team t-shirts and sweatshirts. Purchase of any of these items is at your discretion. Spiritwear orders are also due March 3rd.
The green “team t-shirt” is great for parents and makes it easy to see the “green block” in the stands during meets.
4. Physicals and Athletic Participation Forms
All participants must have their KSHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Exam (PPE) and 2018/19 Athletic Participation Packet completed and on file with the school athletic department office by Friday, February 22nd, 2019.
Throughout the season, volunteers are needed. From supporting the team tradition of bagels on Saturday after practice, to team dinners, working concessions during the meet, and organizing the team banquet, the team depends on your help. Please review the opportunities available and sign-up to volunteer, using the SignUp Genius links below. Thank you for your support.
The Sunflower League has released the meet schedule and all meets have been added to our event calendar (which also include Google maps for event locations).
As always, this is subject to change. We will endeavor to keep the schedule up-to-date on the website, but highly recommend checking the League calendar for the most accurate information. Use the “view schedules” tool to filter by Swimming.
Team Guidelines
The team guidelines are available online. You may also download a copy of the SMS Swim and Dive Handbook – 2018-19 (pdf). Any questions should be directed to Coach Berg.
Team Communications
The website (including the event calendar) and the team mailing list are the primary communications tools used throughout the season. You should also follow the team on Twitter @smsraiderswim.
