Entries for the State Swim & Dive meet are final. See the meet “psych sheet” which shows entries and seeding by the event.

The hard-luck award goes to Ryan Owens. He was .02 seconds off from swimming in the 100 Fly.

It’s going to be an exciting and FAST MEET!! Looking forward to watching our boys disrupt in some of the events.

State Swim & Dive Itinerary

The swimmers will be driving to and from Topeka on both Friday and Saturday. Divers will be driving back from Topeka on Thursday, but will be spending the night on Friday.

Thursday – February 20, 2020

7:30 AM: Divers meet at SMS to load the van
8:30 AM: Pass Gate Opens (North Main Entrance)
9:45 AM: Diving Coaches Meeting
10:00 AM: Diving Prelims (ALL CLASSES) Warm-Up
11:00 AM: General Admission Gate Opens (North Main Entrance)

Friday – February 21, 2020

10:30 AM: Swimmers and Divers meet at Einstein Brothers for Team Breakfast (College & Antioch) and then load the vans for Topeka

1:30 PM: 6A Swimming Prelims Warm-Up – Open Warm-Up in All Lanes Sprints and Starts (2:15 – 2:25)

State Swim & Dive Stuff No One Tells You About

If your son wants to get a State t-shirt or hoodie, send them with money and encourage them to purchase it as soon as they get to Topeka. Last year, they sold out on the first day. Prices are as follows.

  • Short-Sleeve T-Shirt (Navy) – $19
  • Long-Sleeve T-Shirt (Graphite Heather) – $22
  • Hooded Sweatshirt – $30
  • State Programs – $3
  • Finals Programs – $3

There is next to nothing around the Topeka-Capitol Federal Natatorium for food or snacks. There is a concession stand at the pool, but lunch options are slim. If you need snacks, I’d suggest packing a few and bringing them in your car.

Boys State Swim & Dive Is This Week

Come cheer on your Raider Swim & Dive team as they compete at the State meet at Hummer Sports Complex in Topeka this weekend.

Go to the KSHSAA website for more detailed information. You can also access this document for schedules and other information regarding the State Meet on February 20 – 22. We’ll share specific team information (travel to/from Topeka, itinerary, etc.) and psych sheet later on this week.

League and State “score” differently than standard dual meets. To understand scoring and the ability to move “up or down” for scoring, make sure to read this article. Your place coming out of prelims (or semi-finals for dive) can dramatically affect your podium placement.

Kansas State Boys Swim & Dive Meet

Location: Topeka-Capitol Federal Natatorium at 530 SW Tuffy Kellogg Drive, Topeka, KS 66606

Tickets: (K-12) $6.00, (Adult) $9.00.

Tuesday is “consideration day” when KSHSAA will release the list of swimmers with state consideration times that have been added to the meet. On Wednesday, the official psych sheet will be released showing final entries by the event.

  • Thursday – Dive Prelims (Warm-Up @ 10:00; Competition @ Noon)
  • Friday – 6a Swim Prelims (Warm-Up @ 1:30 pm; Competition @ 2:30pm)
  • Friday – Dive Semi-Finals (Warm-Up @ 5:00 pm; Competition @ 6:30 pm)
  • Saturday – 6a Championship Swim & Dive Finals (3:00 pm)

Boys State Swim & Dive T-Shirts Orders Due By February 12th @ Noon

The 2020 Shawnee Mission South Boys State Swim & Dive T-Shirts are available for order. The shirts are $12.50 each (after convenience fee.)

You can place choose your size, place orders and pay for your shirts –> HERE.

Orders are due by noon on Wednesday, February 12th for delivery on February 19th at practice.

NOTE: THE STATE BOYS TEAM WILL NEED TO PURCHASE THEIR OWN SHIRTS.

These shirts will NOT be purchased by the Booster Club. So, if your son wants a shirt, his order will need to be in before noon on February 12th.

In addition, you can also order for yourself to represent SMS at the State Championships.

Spirit wear will be distributed to your swimmer/diver on February 19th. If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Snyder at 913-579-9511.

Diving

  • Sam Aldeguer – 3rd (397.50)
  • Jacob Held – 5th (391.89)

Swimming

  • 200 Medley Relay (C. Krause, O. Krussow, N. Snyder, and R. Owens) – 7th with a time of 1:43.77.
  • 200 Freestyle Relay (C. Krause, C. Guthrie, J. Barreca, and R. Owens) – 10th with a time of 1:35.39.
  • 400 Freestyle Relay (C. Guthrie, J. Barreca, O. Krussow, and N. Snyder) – 10th with a time of 3:38.51.
  • Owen Krussow was 4th in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:01.30.
  • Charlie Krause was 16th in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:01.22.
  • Nathan Snyder was 11th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.33 and 13th in the 500 M with a time of 5:22.25.

What an AMAZING Sunflower Championship Meet!

The Boys Team moved up one place from last year, had 4 times more entries into finals, has 4.5x more State Qualifying and Consideration times and 98% of the boys had Personal Bests during the meet.

While it was hard to see so many miss finals by just a bit (there were so many 17th and 18th spots), it is exciting to see so much young talent and the future of Raider Swim.

We will know the final list of State Entries (we have lots of boys in consideration) in another week. Once the final list is approved, it will be posted to the website.

This week and next week it will just be the State Team that will be practicing at SMS and SMDAC.

State Team: Sam Aldeguer, Jacob Held, Tim Holmes, Nathan Snyder, Owen Krussow, Charlie Krause, Ryan Owens, Carson Guthrie, and Joe Barreca.

State Parent Communication: Expect an email this week with volunteer opportunities for team lunches, team snacks, state t-shirts, and final team dinner.

Boys Booster Club Coach’s Gift

The Boys Booster Club is THRILLED to be providing an LED Pace Clock to the Swim Team.

This year the boys have been without an LED Pace Clock. A pace clock is essential in Race-Based Practices to allow the swimmer to know if they are hitting their mark or not.

Coach Berg will be ordering the clock soon and looks forward to using this clock at the end of the boy’s season and for many more seasons to come.

2020 Boys Sunflower League Swim Information & Heat Sheet

The 2020 Boys Sunflower League Swim Prelims will be held today (2/7) starting at 4:30 pm at SMSDAC. There is an entry fee of $7 for adults, $5 for students, and seniors are free.

The finals will be on Saturday AM. The top 16 swimmers/teams in each race will move on to Saturday’s finals. Dive in the AM and Swim to follow.

Swim/Dive Meets: It’s LEAGUE week! It’s a BUSY week filled with JV, Prelims, and Finals, plus a Team Dinner on Wednesday night. Make sure to view the practice schedule and meet schedule because it will vary depending on your swimmer.

NOTE: Sunflower League Prelims for Swimming and Finals for Swimming and Diving will charge a $7 entry fee.

In some cases, your son may be swimming both JV and Varsity League. If this is the case, the coach has spoken to your son. If your son is swimming only JV League, his season will be done on Tuesday, but we encourage him to come to the team dinner and support the team at Sunflower League on Friday.

Provide a taco feast to the boys before the Sunflower League Meet. The dinner will be at SMS in the Gym Lobby after practice on February 5th.

Plan to bring your hot dish by 5:15 pm. Can’t make it by 5:15? We also have needs for paper goods, water bottles, and pre-made desserts. Dinner will conclude around 7:00 pm.
