Weekly Highlights & Notes

Timers:  A BIG thank you to everyone who stepped up to help time at the meets this week!  We are still looking for 1 more volunteer timer on Thursday, 1/20/22.

Boys Swim & Dive 2021/2022: Timers Needed (signupgenius.com)

Team apparel:  Personalized swim caps are still in production per Swim Quick.  We were told yesterday 1/13 that it will be another 2-3 weeks until they are ready, and because the caps are already in production it is too late to cancel.  We voiced our displeasure.  Feel free to reach out to Swim Quick if you would like to do the same.  Team shirts have all been distributed.  If your swimmer/diver still does not have one, please contact us.

MLK Service Project

We are asking that the boys clean out their closets to donate gently used and clean clothing to the Shawnee Mission Clothing Center.  Teenage clothing is always a great need, along with donations of new socks and underwear in all sizes.  The SMSD Clothing Center is a shop-like resource that offers free used clothing and shoes to residents within the SMSD boundaries.  We will coordinate a time (after practice) when the boys can drop the donations off.  By fostering a culture of service to others our boys will be developing character both in and out of the pool!

  • Friday, 1/21: 3:00 – 5:00 pm SMS
  • Saturday, 1/22: Meet SM Invite. SMSDAC* There will be an admission charge: $7 for adults, $5 for kids.  Swimmers to arrive 8 am.  Meet scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.

1/11/22 Meet Results: SMS v ONW/LHS

SMS v ONW/LHS Meet Results

Highlights:

2nd place finishes for the 200 and 400 freestyle relays both with new state qualifying times consisting of O’Connor, Barreca, Guthrie, Hopkins, Glennon. Max Toney 3rd in the 500 freestyle, Lucas Beach 4th in back, Luke Mayabb 3rd in breast, Carson Guthrie 4th in 200 free, Grady O’Connor first in 100 and 200 free, Joe Barreca 3rd in 50 free and 4th in 100 free.

Congrats to Duncan Tennant and Hudson Mock for major time drops and Lincoln Knowles for a strong 3rd place finish in dive.

Meets this week:

Tuesday 1/11 SMS vs ONW/LHS at SMSDAC 3:30pm.  Boys will be released from school at 1:30pm to travel to SMSDAC.  Warmups start at 2:30pm, meet at 3:30pm.

Thursday 1/13 SMS vs SME at SMSDAC 3:30 pm.  Boys will be released from school at 1:30pm to travel to SMSDAC.  Warmups start at 2:30pm, meet at 3:30pm.

A BIG thank you to everyone who helped time at the District meet this weekend!  SMS Girls Swim & Dive also volunteered their time Saturday (Captains Tove & Gretchen and swimmer Charlotte). Meets can’t run without volunteers.  Please consider signing up to time at a future meet, no experience necessary.
