Boys Varsity Olathe Invitational 12/11/21

Congrats to the following boys who represented the team at the Olathe Invitational: Ryan Owens, Joe Barreca, Grady O’Connor, Max Toney, Drew and Kyle Gellhaus, Luke Mayabb, Cian Glennon, Carson Guthrie and Graham Hopkins. The team placed 7th overall in a tough field of competition.
Highlights include:
100 free Grady O’Connor 1st (State Qualifier), Joe Barreca 3rd (State Consideration)
200 free Grady O’Connor 1st (State Qualifier)
200 free relay 5th place-Guthrie, Barreca, Owens, O’Connor (State Qualified)
400 free relay 5th place-Guthrie, Barreca, Owens, O’Connor (State Qualified)
Special Thanks To: Duncan Tennant and his mom for being timers, and the Gellhaus family for providing meet day snacks (Happy Birthday Kyle & Drew)!

Our team is responsible for providing 8 timers at each of our host meets.  No experience necessary!  Please choose a slot (or more) and gain a perfect view of the meet in return.  Thank you!

Snack Cooler

In Lieu of homemade sack lunches, we will have a snack basket filled with pre-packaged goodies for the boys.  Snacks will be available during weeknight swim meets.  Please fill a basket/cooler with individually packaged items such as granola bars, apples, popcorn, chips, bananas etc.  Cooler can be dropped off with the team in the stands at SMSDAC, or sent with your swimmer.  Contact us if you need additional arrangements for delivery, we are happy to help!  We are providing snacks for 24 boys.  Thank you!

What an amazing first week of swim and dive!!  It’s going to be an exciting season.

Weekly Highlights & Notes

Swim/Dive Meets: The boys’ have one swim and dive meet this week on Saturday 12/11.

Boys Varsity Olathe Invitational 12/11/21:

Swim meet: Summit Trail Middle School.  Warmups begin at 9am, so boys need to report to the pool at 8:30am.  Competition begins at 10am.  No transportation is available.

Dive meet: California Trail.  Warmups begin at 9am, so divers need to report to the pool at 8:30am.  Competition begins at 10am, an 11 Dive format.  No transportation is available.

Limited entry meet.  Coach Berg will let boys know who will be swimming/diving by Wednesday 12/8.  Only those swimming/diving in the meet will be attending.

NOTE: Be sure your son has extra masks, a Ziploc bag for his mask (to keep it dry), and his own water bottle and snacks for the meet.

MeetMobile: The SMSDAC uses MeetMobile Swim App to provide real-time meet results and standings during meets. More schools are starting to use this app and it is a way to stay informed of your son’s performance if you can’t be there in person. The app is available in the Apple & Google Play Store.

SMS Swim & Dive Schedule Has Been Updated. The schedule has been updated with this year’s meets. Like with everything this year, this can change at a moment’s notice. The event calendar also has all meets, as well as locations and times. If in doubt, make sure to check the Sunflower League Calendar.

We hope you had a nice Thanksgiving Break!

Weekly Highlights & Notes

The Boys Swim & Dive Season officially kicks off this week with two meets! 

  • Lawrence Triangular on December 1st @ 3:30 pm
  • SMS vs SMW on December 2nd @ 3:30pm (SENIOR NIGHT)

Lawrence Free State is not allowing spectators.  If a live-stream link becomes available we will share it.

SMSDAC is allowing spectators (no restrictions.)  Masks required indoors.
Admission: No charge at the aquatic center this year.

Transportation:  Lawrence Dec. 1- all boys will be released at 1:00pm and meet at the gymnasium to load vans.  There is enough transportation for everyone to attend the meet.  SMSDAC v SMW Dec. 2- all boys will be released at 1:30, they will drive over to SMSDAC.  Bus transportation is not available.

MeetMobile: The SMSDAC uses MeetMobile Swim App to provide real-time meet results and standings during meets. More schools are starting to use this app and it is a way to stay informed of your son’s performance if you can’t be there in person. The app is available through your mobile device (charges may apply.)

Swim/Dive will be at both SMS Pool and SMSDAC. Please see the times and locations above. SMSDAC is located at 17251 W 87th Street, Lenexa, KS 66219 (87th & I-435).

Urgent: Drivers Needed

SMS has 2 vans available to transport our team to Lawrence, KS on Dec. 1st. for the first meet of the season. Unfortunately, that is not enough seating for the whole team. If you are willing to transport team members to Lawrence please let us know. You must fill out the MVR form and return it to Karen Wagner, SMS Athletic Secretary, along with a copy of your drivers license.

In order to get driving approval in time, the MVR form needs to be submitted to Karen by Thursday 11/18.

Even if you are unable to help transport to Lawrence, please consider filling out an MVR form to assist with future needs.
